Indian slates are a naturally fine-grained, homogeneous, metamorphic rock. Slate is a shale type sedimentary rock comprising clay or volcanic ash. Foliation is observed in Slate. When slate is cut and made smooth it could be a perfect constructional component. Slate occurs in variety of shades- from light to very dark sheets of grey.
Some slates are compact stone composed of grains of quartz called Slate Quartzite. Its color is a blend of light and dark greens, grey and silver with flecks of quartz lending it a sparkle. It can be polished marvelously into high gloss shine and it blends perfectly with modern materials like glass, aluminum and concrete.
